A Step-by-Step Guide

Starting a New Business

The following is the basic procedure for starting a new business:

Formation of the trading entity (Company, Close Corporation, Trust, other) and receiving proof of registration from the relevant authority.

Open a bank account for the registered entity.

Register the entity, and stakeholders where necessary, as taxpayers and obtaining tax reference numbers.

Registration of the entity for Value Added Tax (VAT), where turnover in excess of R300000 per annum is expected or other necessary reasons

Registration with the local Regional Services Board � not required since.

Employers to register for PAYE, Unemployment Insurance (UIF), Skills Development and Workmen's Compensation, Importer and/or Exporter.

Where necessary, register with the relevant Industrial Council or financial services board.

Register with relevant SETA.

Prepare a Manual of Promotion of Access of Information and lodge with SAHRC.
